The “Proposition” series that I have been developing over the past decade illustrates the suspension of pigment into a binder and serves as an additive process of stacking planes of color onto canvases. This allows the viewer of the art object to engage with the old world charms of moving around lacquered tableaux, letting perception change through gentle shifts of light, letting color transport them into feeling, all in a way that relates to earthly time and give what appears to be static art, motion. Pigment, gold, diamond dust, iron, and other precious and non-precious materials are utilized for both their perceived values as well as their individual physical and chromatic qualities. Playing with the ancient arts of paint allows me to ask viewers to slow down, contemplate, and to consider their bodies in a hyper-accelerated, virtual world.
